About the exhibition, A Journey to “The Four Seasons”: Naïve Art from Italy:
Italian naïve art encompasses all the defining characteristics of the naïve art movement: refreshing innocence, vivid colors, a childlike perspective, a uniquely personal scale, meticulous attention to detail, straightforward and easily understood scenes, and an idealization of everyday life, emphasizing the human narrative.
The uniqueness of Italian naïve art, which originated in the early 20th century in northwestern Italy, lies in the individuality of its artists, who offer distinct perspectives. Italian naïve artists honor their local regions, blending poetic imagination with a grounded depiction of their daily lives. Their works reflect a love for the Italian countryside, landscapes, and simple folk. The depictions pose a significant challenge to the Italian naïve painters: the stunning beauty of the Italian landscape is so idyllic that their ability to portray captivating reality in even greater idealization is truly remarkable.
