Genevieve Jost was born in France in 1944 and moved to Canada in 1967. Genevieve’s artworks epitomize all that is magical in the Naïve World. Her enchantingly innocent portrayal of nature, animals and nubile youth – no doubt influenced by childhood memories and the lovely lake and woods that embrace her home – afford us a heartwarming, insightful view of life’s simple pleasures. Jost’s works evoke the tranquil animal kingdom of Edward Hicks and the dream-like forest scenes of Henri Rousseau. Her love of music is palpable, with her figures often depicted with a musical instrument in hand. A primitive, Early-American ambience pervades Genevieve’s works, with an emphasis upon the interaction between shepherds and well-fed flocks, children and brightly-plumed birds, adolescents and remarkably-domesticated jungle animals. In contrast to today’s technologies that overwhelm humanity and society, Jost’s artworks offer us an intimate view of “Paradise Lost,” and an appreciation of “roads less traveled”!
