Worlds of Difference: The Naives of Brazil and Eastern Europe

May 8, 2014, 19:00 - June 27, 2014, 18:00

From the Press Release:

GINA Gallery of International Naïve Art is delighted to announce the opening of its new exhibition, Worlds of Difference: The Naïves of Brazil and Eastern Europe, which will include approximately 90 artworks (original oils and acrylic) of Brazilian and Eastern Europe naïve artists.

Brazilian and Eastern Europe naïve art is characterized by all of the traditional elements of naïvism: a refreshing innocence, bright colors, childlike perspective, idiosyncratic scale, punctilious detail, and simple, idealized scenes of everyday life. Their canvases are filled with abundant crops, bright, sun-soaked skies, and other images that celebrate the human narrative.

In spite of the common characteristics that form a “bridge” between the naïve art of Brazil and that of Eastern Europe, we can readily observe that these exist between these two worlds major differences, which arise from the unique local culture, traditions, climate, environment and way of life.

We invite you to discover the naïve world of Brazil, Romania, Hungary, Serbia and Croatia.
