Ecuadorian artist Jose Vega Cuyo was born in Huano Turupata in 1958, and grew up in the village of Tigua, Chimbacuchu. When he was a boy, he spent his days working in the fields with his mother and helping his grandmother herd sheep on the pבramo. His work has been exhibited in the Casa de la Cultura in Quito; At Exedra Cultural Foundation at the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C.; at UNESCO in Paris; in the Hearst Museum at the University of California; and in the Presidential Palace of Ecuador and at the Miterrand’s art gallery in France. He lives in Quito, with his wife and their children, who also paints.

His works still reflect the premiary colors and the exhulting of a pure heart.
He is a fine artist.

The Quichua artists of Tigua are well known for their paintings reflecting the customs, stories and daily life of the Quichua communities in the pבramos of Ecuador. For generations, the artists of Tigua have decorated wooden maks.In the 1970´s, Jose Vega Cuyo was one the first Tigua artist to paint on drums and flat surfaces. His works of art, painted on sheep hide stretched over wooden frames, inspired a powerful new form of artistic expression rooted in the rich creative heritage of his ancestors
