15 Years of Naivety

December 20, 2018, 18:00 - February 15, 2019, 18:00

From the Press Release:

Against all odds, GINA Gallery of Naïve Art has succeeded in establishing an international center in Israel dedicated entirely to one artistic genre—whimsical, childlike, and enchanting. Now, it is time to celebrate the gallery’s 15th anniversary with a special exhibition.

In a world often marked by cynicism, intrigue, poverty, and illness, there are those who strive to preserve innocence, even into adulthood. Fifteen years ago, Dan Tshil founded GINA Gallery in Tel Aviv as an international center for naïve art. Over the years, the gallery, located in northern Dizengoff in Tel Aviv, has become a vibrant hub for leading naïve artists from 37 countries and a pilgrimage site for lovers of this unique genre.

To mark the occasion, the exhibition “GINA Gallery – 15th Anniversary” will open on December 20.

Naïve art celebrates the human story, which is unique to the artist’s place of origin. The genre encompasses an infinite variety of styles, all sharing the distinct characteristics of naïve art. This exhibition aims to highlight the triumph of the childlike spirit and will feature a selection of the gallery visitors’ most beloved naïve artists. Additionally, over the three-month duration of the exhibition, special events will be held to celebrate this milestone. These include a gallery talk with Charlotte Lachapelle (who will come especially from Paris and also lead a masterclass for the gallery’s Israeli artists) and a lecture by restorer Michael Karo on the preservation and restoration of artworks.

Participating artists include Fausto Perez, Eduardo Ungar, Charlotte Lachapelle, Geneviève Jost, Maria Laura Bratoz, Lorenzo Cruz, Jean-Pierre Lorand, Ana Maria Dias, and others.

GINA Gallery, located in Tel Aviv’s Old North, is the only gallery in the world specializing in international naïve art. It features works by over 200 artists.
